Umbra Nuve x Afra GULTEPE

Umbra Nuve (Umbra: shadow & Nuve: core, essence) describes a birth process hidden within the cocoon of the mind’s darkness. The work visualizes the inner experiences that the artist has developed both within their own inner world and in the souls of others. The growth of the cocoon with its texture woven from red and blue threads, symbolizes the preparation of experiences gained within for their encounter with the outer world. In addition the green reflections reaching the surface of the cocoon show how the light within the darkness and the surrounding energies permeate the cocoon. The lights within the darkness serve not only as a sign of birth but also of the development and radiance of fragments of the past and future. The brushstrokes create an effect of light and energy on the surface of the cocoon, inviting the viewer into a visual experience. Darkness and shadow function both as a protective space and as a place where potential begins to sprout.
