Mira ORAN does not paint what is seen. She paints what trembles beneath it. Trained at Yıldız Technical University with a foundation in sculpture, serigraphy, and printmaking, her practice began in charcoal but soon moved into color, texture and intuition shaped by the expressive urgency of abstraction.
Her earliest portraits were rendered in charcoal raw, intimate, and unfiltered. But the journey did not stay in black and white. It moved. It burned into color. Her transition into expressionist abstraction was not a shift in style but in sensation. In her hands, color is not applied it is released.
ORAN works with palette knives, texture, and dripping techniques, letting matter move instinctively across canvas.
Eyes appear. Then dissolve. Faces fracture. Then re-form. The visible and the invisible blur and we are drawn not into portraits but into states of being.
Her acclaimed “Bird Paradise” series invites us to open our own wings. These birds are not creatures; they are questions in flight. They carry the ache of transcendence, the pull of elsewhere, and the dream of return. Through them, Oran paints not what is seen in the sky but what rises within us when we look up.
